About Albena
Dobrich Region
Albena is a Blue Flag winning resort with 5km of sandy beach situated in the picturesque Varna bay, and just 30km from Varna international airport.
Construction of Albena as a resort commenced in 1968, which places it amongst the most modern holiday cities along the Black Sea coast. Sited at the foot of hill, the resort is given a unique appeal by the neighbouring forest of Baltata, a section of which has been designated a protected area.
The resort provides a rare blend of fresh air, crystal clear sea, mineral water, and remedial herbs. It boasts spa and medical centres staffed with highly qualified personnel. The mineral water springs in the resort are hypothermic with temperature of around 300 C and low levels of mineralisation.
Albena also caters for active holidaymakers with a range of modern sport facilities. The complex is rich in football fields, tennis courts, swimming pools with mineral water, children playgrounds, golf courses, and a horse riding club.
A number of rental outlets cater for the hire of bikes, cars, cutters, sail-boats, yachts, waterwheels and jets.
Albena has a Congress Centre, catering for congress and business events and coordinates all activities associated with these events. Regular events include an annual auto-rally which takes place in May, a folk festival for song and dance, a Golden Antennae festival for TV, a bridge competition in June, beach volleyball competition in June or July.
Around the resort are several snack bars and cafes, a cocktail bar and a number of inns, taverns and restaurants. Foods available range from continental-European and traditionally Bulgarian to Indian and Chinese cuisine.
Road links are good with regular transport links to Albena from Balchic, Varna, Golden Sands and Dobrich. Transport is provided by town buses, many private minibuses and taxis, with water transport running from the small harbour of the resort.
