About Shabla
Dobrich Region
The town of Shabla is an old Thracian village and is the most east point of the Bulgarian seaside. A fine place of interest is its church built in 1853. An impressive lighthouse, built in 1856 is Bulgaria's oldest lighthouse.
There is an old community cultural centre, museum collection and an art gallery in the town. Every 24th day the town hosts a grand folklore festive of art and creativity noted for the songs, dances and art exhibitions. The beaches are clean and pleasant for recreation.
There are a number of small restaurants and snack bars. And locally sourced food can be purchased from grocer's stores, and roadside caravans offering food and refreshment stalls. One can buy fruit and vegetables from the local producers.
Heading southward on a steep seashore is Peshterata. Here are a system of connected caves, projected over the high rocky shore towards the sea.
The Durankulak Lake is located nearby. The Lake is portioned by a sandy bank and connected with the sea through a channel. The Lake is great for fishing and recreation, and is the nestling site for over 100,000 wild geese. Nearby the town of Shabla is the yachting club where the annual yacht-regatta along the Black Sea coast starts
The Dourankoulak Moor is further northwards and is famous for being a reserve for a number of marsh birds, some of them are registered in the Red Book of fauna species in Bulgaria. On the Moor is the remains of the largest Eneolithic settlement in Europe, as well as many other archaeological finds.
